Online Adventures

Until recently, it never understood how technically advanced the world is. I realized it when I was trying to pick up an old hobby of mine. Ever since I could read, write, and move my fingers, I have played the piano. I was quite good and won a few contests, but the passion slipped away as grew older. I have recently tried to pick up the old hobby, but not the way I first learned.
Back in the good ol’ days, my piano teacher, Mrs. Shiranti, would visit my house weekly at 5:00 to instruct me at the piano in my living room. My mom would always interest her in a cool beverage, and then we would be off to an hour of musical knowledge. It was an hour to relax, and escape the hard day at school.
Soon, I found myself veering away from music in general. The young “musical Gabby” turned into the “sporty Gabby”. I started playing many different sports such as basketball, tennis, and soccer. That held up for a couple of years, until I started gymnastics and cheer. Ever since, that has been my passion, but now I’m finding myself missing music every day.
I suppose that is what led me down into the basement the other week to wipe the cobwebs off the piano. However, this time around, I found myself learning in many new ways. The first place was Garage band. It’s a program on Apple computers that allows you to virtually make your own music with computer instruments. The program also has special lessons on various instruments. So I clicked on the piano and a man taught me the basic fundamentals of how to play piano in a video. There was also an option to download further lessons.
The next way to learn how to play an instrument is to go to a very common website. Youtube offers thousands of videos to help you in the skill. Many talented pianists have chosen to teach lessons by video an upload them to Youtube. It’s a priceless way to learn something as long as you have access to a computer.
These many new technologies have shocked me. The fact that nowadays we can learn a new skill, just by typing in a URL is ultimately scary. This world is becoming highly technical and depending on your own opinion that could be for the good or better. I am proud; however, to say that this advanced technology has recently helped me to advance my skill.

Full Body Scanners: A Great Idea

We should invest in full body scanners at airports, in order to prevent terrorist attacks.
One reason we should invest in full body scanners is that metal detectors, just are not cutting it. In the article "Questions and Answers About Full-Body Scanners" in the U.S. News and World Report, it states "The machines are designed to uncover what a physical pat-down could turn up but a metal detector wouldn't find. That includes plastic or chemical explosives and nonmetallic weapons in a pocket or strapped to someone's body." That means that we would now be able to find other terrorist tactics, that are not metallic. For example, imagine if you were on a plane and a terrorist brought the materials needed for a bomb, but they were plastic and powder. The metal detectors that are now used, would not find those objects, but a full body scanner would. However, it is being argued that these scanners are controversial and the displays show male and female body parts that some people are uncomfortable showing.
Another reason we should invests in full body scanners, is that they are not an invasion of privacy. In fact according to the same article in the U.S. News and World Report, there are ways to make the scan less revealing. For instance, "Amsterdam's airport is moving ahead with full-body scanners after trying new software that projects a stylized image — rather than an actual picture — onto a computer screen. It highlights the area of the body where objects are concealed in pockets or under the clothing." So for the many people arguing that they break child pornography laws, or this is an invasion of privacy, there are many solutions to those problems. The article also mentions that, "Full-body images are viewed in a walled-off location not visible to the public. The security officer assisting the passenger cannot view the image, and the officer who views the image doesn't see the passenger." People just need to realize that this is for the safety of everyone on the plane, and we need to start preventing what has already happened more than once.

Unusual Chicken Pox

It was a beautiful summer day in Livonia, Michigan. I was laying around near the pool in my backyard when I felt a tingle on my neck. I immediately started scratching the pain, but it would not go away. Two hours later I was listening to the doctor proclaim that I most likely had the chicken pox. I sat in my bed miserable for three days, constantly itching my body everywhere. The itching would not stop but I knew I had to do something.
I read online about a fisherman who lived in the forest surrounding Newburgh lake. Rumors had it, he owned a special potion to take away the feeling of pain. I had a feeling that if I could persuade him into giving it to me, my chicken pox would stop itching. That night, my buddy Seth and I rode our bikes through the treacherous terrain. Soon enough we were face to face with the door to the shack, where the fisherman lived. I knocked three times, and the old man cam to the door. The smell of fish permeated out of the house and the man reeked of years with out a shower. He oddly had only one eye located in the center of his forehead and he was missing all of his teeth except on in the middle. His long gray hair touched the floor as if he never had a haircut.
I asked him if he would mind helping me, and told him of my horrible pain. Luckily, the rumors were true, and he did have a cream. However, his lack of English made me wonder if we were talking about the same cream. That night when I got home, I rushed to my bedroom and applied two coats of cream, as the bottle directed. When I woke up in the morning I felt numb. I looked down to see that my "pox" had become huge and swollen and they for sure did not look like chicken pox.
That day I could not even walk so I watched TV. I didn't have a problem with the itching anymore, and that was the bright side of the day.
I awoke in the middle of that night because I felt as though all the pox were being opened. It was the weirdest feeling I have ever felt in my life. When I turned on the light I saw little creatures pulling themselves out of my body. I was so scared, but I couldn't call for help because everyone was sleeping. Then, as if it couldn't have gotten any weirder, the creatures started to talk and communicate. Luckily, it was English they were speaking.
The greeted themselves as Jinks and they were actually all over the world, just living as bugs. The rarely were born in humans, because they usually came from animals. I wondered if the fisher mans ointment had anything to do with them so the next day I went to visit him with them. He acted as if they were family and urged me to give them to him. He explained the ointment made them form from chicken pox and he gave me the ointment because the species of Jinks was becoming rare in Livonia.
After understanding this more I decided that they weren't so bad after all, so I decided to take some cream, and whenever someone I knew had Chicken pox I told them my story and bathed them in cream
